More than 3,000 years ago in ancient abylonian Mesopotamia, Tapputi ecame the world’s first recorded perfumer and chemist. Working inside the royal palace, she pioneered early fragrance-making techniques using flowers, oils, and aromatic plants — distilling and refining scents long before modern perfumery existed.

Across civilizations like Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley Civilization, perfume became a symbol of royalty, ritual, and identity. Even the word “perfume” comes from the Latin perfumare — meaning “to smoke through.”
